IN PROCESS

2019 || modified monotype prints, copper tubing, fishing line

The goal of my creative output is to break down the barriers between the artist and viewer. I believe that the audience can be one of the most essential parts of a completed work. Providing the audience with rare opportunity to contribute to the finalization of a piece helps to dismantle the traditional limitations of the exclusionary practices of galleries, museums, and art-making itself. This piece invites the viewer to challenge the typical museum experience by physically engaging with the installation. Physical interaction with the installation encourages the audience to utilize their sense of touch, whereas that sense is often forbidden when presenting art. I believe the meaning of an art piece can never be stationary, and I encourage my audience to move through my piece. By doing so, they are contributing to the process of meaning-making as well as collaborating with the artist to resist the limitations of traditional art institutions.

I invite you to touch, walk through, and stand in my piece.

This piece was created as a part of ART 343: Senior Studies, which is the final class of the Studio Art major at St. Olaf college.
